So when I packed for this trip I checked and re-checked to make sure I wasn't forgetting anything. After the past 3 days in school I keep asking myself why didn't I think to bring an English-Spanish dictionary??? You would think that they would sell one somewhere around here or even in my school but noooo. I could only find a spanish-english version which won't work. So this weekend that is my quest.
Joy called me at my host families house yesterday and we have plans to meet in Heredia maņana at 3pm to catch a bus to Puerta Viejo on the Carribean. I really need a break from thinking.... haha!! We are staying for 2 nights and I cant wait!!
School has truly been so demanding and I have felt like it is a constant game of catch-up. I really can't tell if i am getting better or worse at this point. It will be nice to re-charge my batteries this weekend and be ready to kick some Spanish bootie on Monday.
There was a big storm all night and even though I am tired from no sleep it was pretty cool to see. Mucho wind and lluvio-rain.
My mama tico, which is what everyone calls their host moms, is constantly cleaning, cooking or catering to someone. One thing I have noticed is that everybody takes quite a bit of pride in their homes. Most of the residences here are very well maintained and very very clean. They also have a huge emphasis on family. There are no TV's in the living rooms, only in the master bedrooms as far as I have seen. The families are very social and so far I have been in 6 homes of neighbors and family. The family eats every meal together when possible and they all wait for the last person to be done. Mama tico sits with me in the morning while I eat which was really weird at first because she doesn't eat in the morning so she just sits and watches me chew. I am getting more used to it but it is still a little weird. I really enjoy being immersed in the culture and it is so refreshing to see a family as close as they are, laughing, sharing, joking with each other. It reminds me of home.
My new roommate, Lolita the Lizard, is still a little shy but comes out to see me all of the time when I am home. She eats bugs, so she is more than welcome to share my space. I put down the shoe to encourage her to stay!! I have 4 hours of studying and then bedtime for bonzo... So that is it for now. pictures are coming soon- I will post them next week. love ya!
