Where I stayed
7:30 breakfast & luggage out
8:45 Discovery channel show in the lounge
9:00 all checkout complete
9:30 Passport stamp,sandwiches & juice at pool
I got the passport stamp- kinda cute drawing- Frigate bird with pouch above M/V Galapagos Legend.
10 disembark: our last dry landing.
Plane actually arrives at 10:40 just a tad late. Clean up and begin boarding by 11:15
take off by 11:30- not too shabby.
2:30 arrival looking for Fernando but it's Eddie again. We gather quickly inside the airport for pit stop and Options: tour of Parque Historico across the river from airport or go to hotel and shopping. Guess what we vote for?
As we head out, I dig out my camera. But I probably should have been looking for the insect repellant. I'm still covered in lovely red spots from the last Guiyaquil outing.
Anyway, off the the Parque. It's quite unique with two very distinct areas: the first is a little zoo, displaying animals and their habitats unique to Ecuador. The other is the remains of the old Melecon. Eddie enlightens us. The Malecon that we visited was greatly expanded and this century. But rather than just tear out the old, they gathered up what pieces they could and rebuilt is as part of the Parque. It's called Malecon 1900. Quite a lovely idea. There's also a portion dedicated to replicating the types of homes- plantation hacienda and workers shacks on stilts- and a herbal garden where the gardener points out plants and their medicinal usage.
We stop for a cuppa aftwards- very "starbucks-like" experience
Then finally on to our old hotel. I collect the bag that I stored just a few days previously. Now I have to get everything into one bag- which proves impossible with the souvenirs. And I didn't even buy very much!
Dinner first in the hotel with Eddie. And then on to the packing.
