Where I stayed
Uneventful flight. We're whisked off to the hotel. The air is cool but the sun is very warm. A big difference from Lima. We're packed into a small bus- this won't be like Lima at all.
At the hotel, we're greeted with Coca tea in tiny glasses. The coca tea on the plane must have been heavily sugared. This isn't sweetened at all. I'm feeling mostly okay, but we're all advised to rest. It's noon now and we'll gather at 3 for a city tour. I just gt room service since I'm tired- has nothing to do with being at 11,000 feet.
The tour is led by Jose who has the looks of Inkan nobility
We get on the bus and it takes us short distance to the Plaza de Armas for tour of the cathedral. This is a very long tour of every saint's niche. The cathedral is very beautiful but the tour is tough to take.
Finally, we gather out on the plaza again. A procession with one of the images from the cathedral comes marching up the street, accompanied by band and dancers all dressed up in colorful finery.Monday is a holy day and there will be much religious celebration.
At last back to the hotel, but only a few hours before diner in the hotel. I've discovered that I left my "wet" bag with contact stuff somewhere in the room in Lima. My contact- the sole remaining one- feels like a rocky beach stuck in my eye. So I take it out and soak it using the one little bottle of solution I'm carrying with me. The concierge points out some locations of "farmacias" nearby on their little map. I don't have time today for shopping, plus dinner is waiting. I'll have to check it out tomorrow. In the meantime, I'll have to switch to glasses. Too bad I don't have any prescription sunglasses.
