Today started bright and sunny, and a perfect start for our trip north. Traveling along Rt 101 we stumbled upon the Ventura County Hobson Beach Campground; this is a small campground on the beach, actually the campground is behind a rock wall that descends about 10 feet to the water and at high tide there is no beach. After setting up the camper we settled in with a glass of wine, some music, a book and the sound of the crashing surf a few feet away. While we were enjoying the relaxing atmosphere a young man approached and asked if he could use our electrical outlet to charge his cell phone, he was tent camping and did not have power on his site. We started talking and found out that he was from Germany and traveling around the U.S. by himself, we shared travel experiences and advice for our future travel. It is this type of day, finding an unexpected campsite and a conversation with a stranger that makes this trip so enjoyable. This part of the coast is not facing west so the sunset was not over the water, but over a tip of land jutting out into the ocean, while not the perfect sunset, it was a beautiful.
