Where I stayed
Nazca was ignored by the outside world until a North American scientist flew across the desert and discovered the now world famous Nazca lines.
The Nazca lines form a network of 800 lines, 300 geometric figures and 70 animal & plant drawings. Some of the most popular are the humming bird, monkey, spider and astronaut.
The lines were created by removing sun darkened stones from the desert to expose the lighter soil below. It is still to this day a mystery as to who constructed the lines and for what reason as they can only be seen clearly from the air. The latest research suggests that the lines were created by the Paracas & Nazca cultures from 900 BC to AD 600 but nobody really knows for sure.
We arrived in Nazca at 12pm and booked our flights for two hours later as there would be less turbulence at that time. We went with a popular and safe company called Aeroparacas and got to see 14 of the main animal & plant drawings as well as many lines.
We had 8 hours to kill around Nazca before we boarded our 18 hour bus to the famous Cuzco that night.
