Where I stayed
Case de Arena
Just 5km west of Ica, this oasis surrounded by towering dunes nestles next to a picturesque lagoon that features on the back of Peru´s S/50 note.
Our 4 hour journey from Lima turned into 6 after some reckless driving from our Peruvian bus driver. He hit something along the way and drove off without a worry. Shortly afterwords two chicken chasers raced passed us and blocked our bus in. Eventually the police arrived and we were all put on a different bus.
We checked into our hostel and booked the sand boarding tour for two hours later. The trip included a CRAZY Sand-Buggy Roller Coaster ride up and down the sand dunes, 6 attempts at sand boarding (lying down and standing up) and numerous stops to take pictures of the breathtaking scenery
The following day we were up bright and early in preparation for the first leg of the Ireland v France game. Good performance by the boys in green but disappointing result.... Muchos cervezas.
On Steve's round, he conveniently felt tired and went to bed however according to Steve the round was over..... Pa decided to go to bed 3 hours later while Brian felt there was still a bit of disco dancing to be done so he decided Steve was his best option. Steve who now had a good sleep had no hesitation in coming to Brian's aid. Pa slept through all of this and had no idea what was going on when the roaring started at 4 in the morning..... LOVELY.
The town of Huacachina was very quiet and the only reason we stayed for 2 nights was because of the Ireland game. However it was defiantly worth the stop, just for the sand boarding alone. Great experience.
Next stop in Nazca to see some lines...
