It was nice to arrive in a town close to the Sea.  The air was fresh and it was nice with a cool breeze for a change.  We relaxed and recovered slowly from our sickness in Aleppo.  We were a bit disappointed that the beach and ocean was a bit dirty.  But then again, nothing compares to the beautiful beaches and clear blue water of the Bahamas.  One thing we have learned traveling the world, is that we have not found any nicer beaches than where we live!

Lattakia does not feel like the rest of Syria.  We were told that this city is one of the wealthiest and least conservative cities in the country.  This is due to the many families with expatriate relatives working overseas.  Here the headscarf is replaced by tight jeans and low cut shirts. There was also a mix of both boys and girls in the cafe which was a rare sight in other parts of Syria
