This hike up to Mt. Sinai was not at all what I expected.  I really regretted going on the night hike as I realized that it was way too much for Nikolas.  The next morning, I noticed that Nikolas was the only child coming down the mountain.

We departed Dahab at 11pm and headed to St. Katherine Reserve Park.  We arrived at 1:30am and started the hike in the middle of the night.  I'm glad that we brought our headlamps.  It was pretty amazing to walk through the gorge as there was so many stars in the clear sky.  However, I couldn't keep looking up for long as the ground was uneven and too many rocks.  I really wanted to just sit down for a minute and look up at the sky.  But unfortunately, the guide said we needed to keep going.  I was rather annoyed because I really wanted to enjoy the hike and not be rushed.

Nik started to complain that he was sleepy. I don't know what pushed him, but he kept going anyways.  There was way too many people and I found out the next day that there was 500 people climbing the mountain that night!!!!!

Walking up the mountain, you really had to be careful as there was drop offs and I didn't realize how steep until the next morning!  There was also too many camels sharing the narrow trail and we constantly had to look behind us.  I saw one guy get knocked over by a camel.

Half way up, I really started to question my judgment on doing this trip.  It only got steeper and steeper and I wondered what the hell am I doing???  It seemed that the trail would never end.  All we saw was a long line of flickering lights ahead of us but I never could tell where the top of the stupid mountain was!

Then when I thought we were finally there, we still had 800 steps to climb!  Arrghh, I'm not even religious and I was wondering what am I doing climbing this mountain with all these religious people singing their hymns!  All I could think of was "God, get me back to Dahab!"

When we finally got the top, it was freezing cold and windy!  I found a spot right at the edge of the mountain so we could watch the sunrise.  Nik laid down on my lap and went straight to sleep.  I was not physically tired, more sleepy tired!  But we had come all this way, so I should at least watch the sunrise.  It didn't take long before the pushy Chinese and Russian tourists wedged in between me and the edge and completely blocked my view!  I tried to tell them to move but they just looked at me.  When they started stepping on Nikolas, thats when I had to get up and move.

Then just when I went to take a photo, my camera would not work!!!  Typical, first they block my view then my camera freezes.  And this was the new camera that my sister had sent me!  By the time, I got the camera to work, the sun had already come up!

I looked around and thought, this is it?  Why did we do this climb? Neither one of us enjoyed the climb as there was way too many pushy and rude people and it was freezing cold!  Would I do it again?  No, not this mountain!  I loved the 5 day climb to Mount Kilimanjaro but I also took my time getting to the top!

I really felt bad for Nikolas as I made him do this climb.  By the time we got back to Dahab, we had been awake for 30 hours!
