Then I return to my hotel and learn that my room was not anymore available in the night, same fight: Russian are very nice but with Cyrillic alphabet and the habit to put really small advertisement for hotel, restaurant, pub etc it become quite difficult to find an hostel.
I finally went in an internet cafe and book an hostel via Hostel World and then when I found it: I still had to find it in the street: the sign on the door was 20 x 10 cm behind the second door of a building...
Anyway that the pleasure of the traveling without too many booking: a great freedom for some times few small issue.
From the beginning in Russia I did not get any guide book as Lonely planet or Le guide du routard (same kind in french), and at the end it was a good choice as I did a lot of visit at least in St Petersburg by my own just walking in the street and bumping in nice monument all the time, and following the instruction of all the Russian people that I was meeting: like Dima and Anna that I met in the train from Murmansk. By this way, you re going in only non touristic place with only Russian culture and you have the feeling to travel inside the Russian culture.
I went to visit the St Peter and St Paul Cathedral, and I just arrived at the right time, some veterans where invited by the town with a great ceremony, military music with at least 100 military carrying Red flag. Veterans arriving per boat before to enter in the wall of the cathedral. Really impressive!
In the evening, I found a place with live music: a kind of association bar where all the musicians who wanted to play just came on the scene to play, giving a live jam cession of rock, reggae and chilled out music.
