The bus from Alghero to Bosa took us through some spectacular coastal scenery, which reminded us of the West coast of Ireland - although here in Sardinia you can actually see the views... When we were in Ireland the views were mostly obscured by thick fog and heavy rain!

The steep walk up to the castle, through groves of olives and prickly pears, afforded a great view of the town of Bosa, the river and the multicoloured houses.

For lunch we found an excellent trattoria by the river called "La Pulce Rossa" (Via Lungo Temo Amendola) and pigged out on bread, salami and huge helpings of spaghetti alle vongole washed down with a jug of wine.... all we need know is to find spot in the shade for an afternoon rest!

Instead of having a siesta, we decided to work off a few calories by walking along the river to Bosa Marina - It was much further than we had anticipated, the sea looked angry and the beach was windswept, so we decided to head back into town and get the bus back to Alghero.

Here's a tip for anyone planning to take a bus to/from Bosa - buy your tickets for both journey's in Alghero - we spent ages walking from bar to "tabacchaio" to "giornalaio" to "edicola" (the last two sell newspapers and magazines etc). It seems nowhere in Bosa sells bus tickets.  We asked local people and none of them knew where to buy a ticket. One helpful man called his friend to ask where she buys her tickets from, but still we had no luck.

Back in Alghero we joined the evening passagiata and treated ourselves to some decadent home-made ice-creams... A holiday in Italy just would not be complete without trying the local "gelato".

Our penultimate day in Alghero was spent at the local market - lots of cheap clothing, but much more interesting was the huge variety of foodstuff on offer... cheeses, salami, even live snails.
