Okay so Mandy flies half-way around the world to visit me for a week during her half term holidays.. sounds like a great excuse to splurge, live the high life and enjoy some luxury for a change! So when Mandy arrived we checked into the Belfort Dann Carlton Hotel, Medellin where we had a huge suite and the room was decorated with rose petals. Champagne, fruit and flowers in the room as well for that special touch!
We managed to drag ourselves away from the room for dinner at a revolving restaurant on the 18th floor of a neighbouring hotel where we had great views and food. For most of the weekend we relaxed in the sunshine by the pool, occasionally managing to sip a cocktail or two...
After the weekend we flew down to Pereira in a private plane (okay, so it wasn't a private plane but there were only 4 passengers on board and that includes us!).
We stayed for a couple of days at Finca Villa Maria with my friend Kelvin and his girlfriend Yadi who were taking a break from running the Black Sheep Hostel in Medellin.
The finca is set in beautiful countryside and is a working coffee farm so we got to see the processes first hand. Again we had a great swimming pool to relax by and great views of the mountains and coffee plantations. Leaving Pereira we headed to a small village called Salento which is half-way to Armenia. The scenery here is even more beautiful and we had a lovely day walking through the Valle Cocora and seeing the humming birds in the cloud forest.
We then headed back to Medellin for another night at the Belfort before Mandy had to leave to catch her flight back to England. The taxi to the airport broke down half way and we had to flag another to get us there but this wasn't a problem - the people here are so friendly and willing to help. It was sad to say goodbye to Mandy at the airport but it had been great to see each other again and we had a fantastic week together. Take a look at the photo album for lots more pics of our week....
