After all our partying in Bulgaria we were hoping for a more relaxing last week together and so in Istanbul we booked ourselves into a modern apartment in the Changir area. The apartment was recently refurbished and spotlessly clean and we had a bedroom, bathroom, lounge, kitchen and a small outside patio area. There was a communal washing/drying area and our tv had over 400 channels so both me and Mandy were very happy! The location in Changir was great as we were close to Taksim Square and all the nearby bars, clubs and restaurants. We had a great week here visiting all the sights - some of the highlights being the Mosque/Tomb of Suleiman the Magnificent, the famous Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and the Aya Sofia Museum. We also took a boat trip across the Bosphurus to Uskudar which is on the Asian side and one of the most traditional Muslim areas of Istanbul. At night we ate meze and drank beer in the small local restaurants off Istikal Cadessi which were mainly frequented by locals as the tourists seem to stick to the Sultanmeht area across the river. We finished off our week by having cocktails and a lovely meal in 5Kat - a trendy bar restaurant which has great sunset views over the Bosphurus. We then had more drinks and ended up in one of Istanbuls most trendy gay nightclubs which was a mad experience - Mandy enjoyed dancing to Justin Timberlake here though! We had lots of fun in Istanbul and it was good to spend our last week together in a City steeped in history on the European/Asian border.
