We survived another overnight train journey with only one loud snorer opposite us and arrived in the city of Chengdu. We found a lovely place to stay - Sims Cozy Guesthouse which lived up to its name with a large comfortable room and pleasant outdoor and indoor relaxing areas. On our first day we explored some of the city and sampled lots of the street food including roast duck, roast pork sanwiches and street pizza - but this led to us spending most of the night running to and from the toilet!!! The next day was spent very quietly and not straying too far..... By Sunday we had recovered a little and visited the Wenshu Monastery (almost starting to feel like a monk we have seen so many recently), Chairman Mao's statue and then the Peoples Park where lots of Chinese families were enjoying music, dancing and boating on the lake. On our last day we got up early and headed via local buses to the Chengdu Panda Reserve. It was great to see so many pandas (which are really cute!) and they all seemed really happy as they played around, climbed trees and rested in their large enclosures. From here we are heading west to Yunnan Province and our illness has kicked in 'comfort-food craving' so we have packed some cheese & tomato butties for the trip!!
