Looking for the little Tarsiers...

After the cities of Manila and Cebu we took a 2hour ferry to the quieter island of Bohol. Here we headed to Alona beach which is a quiet village by day and sunbathing on the beautiful beach was the order of the day. By night, as with most places in the Philippines, it transforms into a host of kareoke bars and after lots of cheap beer even we ended up taking our turn to sing. Madonna's "Crazy For You" & Enrique's "Hero" were suitably murdered before we made our excuses and left.. The following day we took jeepneys into the centre of the island and visited a Tarsier Sanctuary. The Tarsier is the Worlds smallest primate - smaller than a human hand. It has huge eyes which are bigger than its stomach and its brain - which perhaps explains why they don't run and hide when people come along to stare at them. When they stare back with their big imploring eyes it makes you feel very very guilty that they are now such an endangered species! They are incredibly cute creatures - probably the next pet for Paris Hilton when she sees them... Today we were supposed to go visit the Chocolate Hills - a group of small brown hills which are green in the Summer but very beautiful anyway. The rain called off todays trip but if it holds off tomorrow we will try again and after that head to another island to continue exploring here in the Philippines...
