Snowboarding the Andes (Part I)

We headed west fom Buenos Aires to the famous Andes mountains where the snows had come early - in fact the snow conditions were the best pre-season for 10 years or more!! We paused for a few days in Bariloche where Mandy bought some new bindings for her snowboard and also a helmet. We then headed to San Martin Los Andes where we took a room at the Hostal LaGrieta where the owners Fernando & Soledades were really friendly. The skiresort 'Chapelco' opened a week early due to the great conditions and our first week snowboarding was fantastic with lots of powder conditions and even a couple of sunny days as well. There is already 6metres of snow in the resort which meant any falls we had didn't hurt although it sometimes took a while to dig ourselves out again!! Mandy has got faster every day and by the end of the week was following me through the trees and over the jumps!! The scenery here is beautiful as there are lots of tree-lined runs and you also get views of the lake in the valley below. We are now heading back to Bariloche where the resort 'Catedral' is opening - here the resort is bigger and has even more slopes to explore.. another update will follow soon!
