Well what should have been a very easy trip to Darwin started off very badly, with a plane to catch at 11am in Cairns an hours drive away, Julie decide to break down at 9am (Aaaaargh)!! After a tense wait for the RAC (with Paul pacing up and down) they arrived and got us started, after a tearful goodbye to Julie when we dropped her off, we made it to the airport with about 10 minutes to spare.

The whole situation probably wouldn't have been quite so bad if we had not got bad hangovers from the previos night. We went Cane Toad Racing. Yes thats right Toad as in the hoppy slimy things which turn in to prince charming. It was held in a really funny theme pub which was done out like an outback iron shed thing, when we entered we were given a ticket and they did a lucky dip to decide who would jockey each of the 6 toads. Yes, Paul was one of the lucky ones. He had to Jockey a toad called "Fat B*****d" which involved kissing it for good luck (and they are poisonous), and blowing a party blower at its bum to get it moving. Paul was obviously some kind of charriotier in a previous life as he drove Fat B*****d to victory and won a bottle of beer. It was a very funny evening but most bizarre.

Anyway back to Darwin, the main reason for us coming here was to visit Kakadu national park, which we were to do early the next day. When we arrived it was late afternoon so we went to the hostel and then visited Mindil Beach sunset market. it is as it says on the tin, a market at sunset. It was absolutely beautiful, the sunset over the ocean was amazing and the market was brilliant, selling things like aboriginal art and crafts, hippy clothing, places offering massage, reiki etc., and millions of food stalls selling every kind of food imaginable including a road kill cafe.

We had a really good evening but as we were being picked up at 6am in the morning we went to bed ready for our next adventure
