Crowds. Bright lights. Pubs open after 8pm. It must be civilisation. Hurrah!

Queenstown is a ski resort type place full of trendy active people so we have fitted in really well !?! After a week of being in towns that serve as access points to things like whale watching tours, glaciers & sunny fiords/sounds it's great to be in a place that exists for itself.

We have done nothing but shop (there is a Louis Vuitton shop in the middle of a normal shopping street, however we've only bought tat - apologies now those with birthdays coming up), eat in cafes and takeaway places and drink in actual pubs.

Went up a cable car to the top of a local mountain to get a proper view of the town. Paul wasn't scared by the experience at all, in fact he loved the fact the cars moved at 3m/s & went up the mountain side at a virtual vertical angle. He loved the way the cars rocked to & fro & stopped now & again for no reason other than they might have broken & be about to smash 300 feet to the ground below. (actually he was a complete baby and screamed like a girl when he realised that he was sat facing the way where he could see the big drop, he reckoned he was stuck to the seat and couldn't move, wait until you watch the video for evidence!)

Last part of above should be ignored! (we actually write this like tag team typing/relay typing).

In summary Queenstown an excellent place for skiery type people & a good place to chill (quite literally in the case of our hotel - it is sodding freezing in there, the heating comes on once per day 4.29pm - 5.54pm (yes we've timed it), it's actually warmer in the corridor than in our room (yes we've stood out there for a warm). Lonely Planet readers beware Thomas's Hotel is not as described, if you like heat stay away).

Off to Auckland tomorrow.
