Got back late last night so didn't get to do a blog for yesterday. Letting the kids sleep in this morning too as we have an early start tomorrow. Today is our last day in California and we haven't made any plans, probably hit some shops or head down to a beach, will wait and see. Nice blue skies today so what a nice way to finish off the main part of our vacation. We did get home though to a flashing phone in our room, thanks Glenn for the call and message, pity that we missed you though.

Yesterday we travelled down to Carlsbad to Legoland. This was something we had planned to do and for Josh it was a must. Interesting place with a huge carpark and entry, either they are expecting huge crowds or they get them but I think if they don't add more to the park they will limit their attendance.

It is a great park for families with younger kids And still didn't get a hole in one!
And still didn't get a hole in one!
. Josh enjoyed it but he was too big for some things there. Throughout the park there are lego statues of all sizes and you name it they have it, Star Wars characters, dinosaurs, people, fire trucks, and an entire zoo. Rick and I enjoyed the Miniland (kids kept going on rides so didn't see it) which was made from lego. The white house was huge and New York bigger. They had the Las Vegas Strip set up with the bigger hotels/casinos featured. It was just starting to get dark when we went and the Opera House was built down in the water so even darker as shaded with the river banks but it was all lit up, beautiful. San Francisco was quite detailed with Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge and Lombard Street all being featured.

Josh had fun riding around in these little cars through lego streets. We don't know how many times he went on them. They had stop signs and traffic lights and Josh did quite well, drove on the American side most of the time. They were petrol powered cars and no tracks and the kids had accelerators and brake pedals. Rick tried to go on but they wouldn't let him, said he was too big. Even though the first lot of rides were slow and designed for kids we still went on them including a sky pedal ride and helicopters that went up and down. We saw a comedy fire fighting show which was funny, lots of acrobatics. Next Josh, Rick and I went on fire trucks that you had to manouevre by pumping this mechanism and holding a lever in the direction you were going Beware of Lego Sharks!

. The others that we were competing against had the action right and were pulling away from us, we weren't going but we got the hang of it. Once at the end you race off and have to pump too pumps and aim your water into a hole in a picture of a flame, once you have so much water in your flame disappears and then you get back into the truck and race down to the other end again. For those that know us you'll know that we can be quite competitive and yes, we did win. Josh and us girls went on again and we thrashed the competition the 2nd time!

We did find some faster rides later on and there was one that you can choose your level of difficulty, off course we  had to do the extreme level! Not as bad as sling shot bungy though. We also discovered a boat ride at Pirate Shores which we went on numerous times and got a little bit wet. The boats go around and you operate your own water guns and get people in other boats as well as passersby. Rick and I went on first as the kids had run around to go back on another ride. Talk about feeling like a little kid again and giggle when you get the passersby when they weren't expecting it. As a family unit we do work quite well too when it comes to attacking others! The kids were wetting one boy who was about Joshuas age and then befriended him so he went around with the kids. We even had a game of Mini Golf there while having to battle a farting lego skunk that blew water out it's bum!

After we left Legoland we made a phone call and then went out for a quick visit to see Uncle Toms sister, May and also met her friend, Jim. Jim is an interesting character and we chatted with him about cultural issues, politics, border security and the military. You hear and see things on the news and see some things for yourself but it's interesting chatting to someone who lives here and hearing their view on things Josh with Jim.

. May set the table for us and popped the kettle on, oh, it was so nice to have a proper cup of tea and not one we've had to make in the microwave. We sat around the table and chatted for a while about our holiday, her family, our family, her mum, her husband and Uncle Tom. May was asking too how Aunty Jean was going and spoke about losing her hubby. She also spoke very highly of her nephews that have dropped in to see her when they visit from Australia and loves getting her emails from Glenn. We were at Mays for 3 hours before leaving to travel back. When we were leaving Nicole commented on how quiet it was in her area. May replied with "of course it's quite, most of the people around here are half dead already" and burst out laughing. I think it was the way she said it but it was just like Uncle Tom and his sense of humour.

Anyway, better go and drink my microwaved tea and see if I can get some photos transferred on to here,
