We went out today toward Santa Monica and decided to continue our drive out to Malibu. We drove up the Pacific Coast Highway for a while and checked out the houses etc at Malibu. We stopped at a place where the tourism building us and also where they do their little league. The tourism building was named "Michael Landon". Was very windy at Malibu, hard to close the car doors when the wind was pulling at them and we struggled to walk back into the wind. Wasn't hard to imagine how bad the winds were while they were having their fires, they were very lucky to have saved the buildings that they did. We could see where the fire had been and hopefully some will show up on video. Where we stopped for lunch there was burnt bushes on the coast side of the park and on the other side of the road there was burnt palms. The fire came so close to the backs of many buildings. Josh picked out one place on a hill that I took video off. You may remember on the news there was a multi-million dollar mansion that was like a castle, think it was $15,000,000 if not more that it sold for not too long before the fires
After Malibu we went to Santa Monica and spent the rest of the day on the pier and on the beach. Looks a lot bigger on TV and in the brochures than it seems. The pier in itself is big but the ferris wheel is a lot smaller than we thought it would be. The little park with the rides is really geared for young familys. There was a lot of buskers and small sellers along the pier. Lovely on the end of the pier too, lots of people fishing and Alisha and Rick saw someone pull out a small hammerhead shark. Lots of volleyball courts along the beach and people skating and cycling along the paths. On one side of the pier there are thousands of crosses. Each red cross represented 10 soldiers lives lost in Iraq and the white ones for individual lives lost. There was also 4 blue crosses, they represented the 4 american lives lost last week in Iraq. There was also photos set up of the soldiers that had died and some that had been injured. So many have lost their lives and those that are injured have often lost limbs, very sad. They have set it up to allow people to have a place where they can come and remember and to grieve.
We stayed at Santa Monica and watched the sunset, it was beautiful.
After that we headed home via LAX, we thought we'd go that way to give us an idea of how to get there from here. What a huge airport. Driving by at nice too was lovely as it's all lit up. We drove past the little road where you return rental cars so hopefully we'll find that when we have to.
Anyway, going to see if I can upload some pics then must go and do some washing as we're on our last pair of clean undies! Hate going to do the washing and sitting waiting for it all to be done but someone has to do it!
Hope you've all recovered from your New Years,

. We're pretty sure that it was that building that we saw, the chimney is still standing. After Malibu we went to Santa Monica and spent the rest of the day on the pier and on the beach.
