Do not fear, we have not been eaten or anything else by any tigers or any other escaped animals. We actually hadn't even heard of the incident until we got a text message from Australia. We were at San Diego Zoo at the time and the incident where a tiger escaped and killed someone and mauled two others happened yesterday at San Francisco zoo. Pretty scary stuff though. Speaking of scary, on the news tonight they told of two reported shootings. One today in Pasadena, we were there on the 19th and the other was yesterday around 4:30 at Long Beach, we were there shortly after that.
San Diego Zoo is absolutley beautiful and probably the best zoo we have been too. There is just so much greenery throughout the zoo. Our tickets included the tour bus, all day bus access and skyfari (chair lifts) which other people had to pay for. We went on the bus tour first which took us through most of the zoo and the commentary was mostly interesting. We didn't get to see the baby panda as it was only out for a short time but did see other pandas. We also saw some Queensland Koalas. The yanks love the koalas and of course hear us and think that we have them running around everywhere back home! Saw most of the usual zoo animals. Alisha wore her Rainbow Brite t-short so we dared her to ask one of the workers there where Rainbow Brite was and Murky Dismal. The first person she asked had no idea what she was talking about and had never heard of him and the next man looked at her as if she was stupid. Fancy them not knowing Rainbow Brite. One of the bus drivers knew who she was though but had never seen that video. We did see Debby, one of the old elephants, that was featured in the video. We did like the pandas and the polar bears. The polar bears were feeding though and didn't go in the water while we were there. Saw some meerkats, thought they were bigger but they are quite small. Alisha was also fascinated with the Dik Dik's and is still giggling. Speaking of Dik Dik's, you should have seen the Zebras! One child was asking their mother why they had a big thing dangling down, their mum said that it is because they are animals and don't wear pants like us. Nicole was enjoying herself saying hello to people from the bus. We also put on the aussie accent a bit too especially when we saw a huge Komodo Dragon, we had to honour Steve Irwin.
Think the highlight of the zoo for us was the gorilla exhibit. There was one sitting next to the glass window and we were on the other side. Difficult to picture as mainly getting reflection even with my glass mode on but just awesome being so close. Saw a couple more gorillas too and then the big silverback male came along, he was huge.
Rick also couldn't believe that some of you guys dragged poor Granny around that zoo, hope you's got her a gopher otherwise you could have been up for Granny-abuse, some of those walkways are pretty steep.
We didn't get to see May as it was getting late when we left the zoo and we knew we had 1 1/2 hours to drive back, have tea and do washing. We might leave that til the day we go to Legoland which will most likely be after new year. Rick and I had the truck pimped out on the way home, it was rockin'. Don't know why they have speed limit signs here too. It says 65 mile/hr and everyone goes 80+. A couple of weeks ago we may have passed one or two cars, now only one or two cars pass us, he's driving like a real yank now. Oh, and to change through 4 lanes of traffic, Rick also does that yank style, look to your right and off you go!
Anyway, will try to add some pics later of the zoo, they don't want to go through tonight, quite windy so that may be affecting the signal which isn't the best anyway.
Back to Hollywood tomorrow for a stars home tour and then to the Staple Center for a basketball game at night. On Friday we are off to Tijuana, Mexico.
Catch ya's all later,
USA Woolfes.
