We changed buses at Calama but not after we waited 3 hours. The Tur Bus company are very time focused and so after seeing buses leave dead on time every step of the way.... Our 15:05 bus seemed to be nowhere to be seen.
Time to leave came and passed but fortunately we were not alone in our concerns. Worried eyes were everywhere but 15 mins later the bus arrived and back on the seats we went for another longish trip to San Pedro.

Arriving on a cloud of dust, we took our bags for the 15 min walk through the small town and put the other side to Campo Base, an oasis. An out of the way, hard to find, dust enshrouded oasis, but oasis all the same.

It was late and we are travel worn but a brush of the teeth and a chemical shower (for me, real one for Tina) and we head out for a lap and to choose a place for dinner.

We went to 'Blanco'. Partly because it was one of the few mentioned in the lonely planet guide and partly because, we had a desperate need for vegetables and looked like the safest bet not to regret ordering something green. Tina had what was effectively a roast beef salad, while I had (against original intentions) steak and potato with a mushroom sauce. At 7900CLD ( a little under $16AUD), I won't place any bets on the cut of meat.... Or it's animal of origin for that matter, but it tasted far beyond its cost.
Two glasses of pisco sour and a cafe espresso grande later and we were having trouble keeping our eyes open so we walked back to Campo Base to settle down.

I recognize water is rare here, and I am in general a quick bather, but the microscopic shower heads and the temperamental water pressure of San Pedro put me to the test. I was either burning my skin off under a trickle of lava, or chilled to the soul by a gentle cascade. It seemed every tap in the town was connected directly to my shower as it did not hold one temp or pressure for more than 5 seconds.
Completed my bathing in Gangam style.

Dad, re; Calama/Calaman, cut me some slack. I'm writing these entries on busses with 1946 suspension, on an iphone, in the dark...... so there.
