So far I've met 5 people...2 Swappers I've talked to before, one Texan (who's been living in London on SWAP and so she doesn't sound Texan anymore), one German (who also speaks Russian, English, and Spanish) and one Japanese girl. Yesterday evening I wandered around the little back streets near the hostel with Maria, the German, who also has problems with wheat. The buildings are narrow with flat tops and fronts and adjoining walls. We had supper at a tiny quasi-Italian bar and then coffee (super-espresso for Maria, which she wasn't expecting) and hot chocolate (which tasted normal to me). It was cheaper to "take away" (i.e. to go). We got happily lost and emerged near the old and prestigious Trinity College, walked across the River Liffey to see a 130 m tall and very skinny spire (called the Monument of Light, was supposed to be up for the millennium but wasn't erected until 2003), and then walked back along a very narrow sidewalk where trucks kept almost running Maria over.

The traffic seems very chaotic because of left-hand driving, one-way streets, rampant jaywalking, narrow lanes, and lots of pedestrians (like Toronto). Since I can't figure out which way to look for traffic I have to look both ways twice before I figure it out, and I only jaywalk when everybody else is. :) It's also busy and noisy, especially right outside the hostel window when I'm trying to sleep....

So far today I've had breakfast at the hostel (, orange juice, marmalade, butter, jam, and toast, for which I provided my own) with Tiffany from Texas, went to the SWAP orientation down the street, and had lunch and did some wandering with Katherine from Regina (the girl I took the plane with). Now I'm off to see what else is going to happen today....
