Once in a while something goes wrong.

Oh well, it had to happen sometime, this is one that went wrong from the start. Yesterday morning after a poor night´s sleep, I left Posadas and headed west towards Salta, my first stop was Resistencia, a medium sized place on the map with an interesting write up in the LP guide. First mistake was doing anything when I was tired, I let the taxi driver rip me off for 5 rs., not a lot, (just under a pound). Bought my coach ticket OK, had a reasonable ride even though once again there was a police check that held the bus up for a close search of everything, I now suspect that this is normal procedure, arriving at our destination on time. Second slight problem, the tourist info. center was shut, I was not able to either get a map or check out the hostels. A taxi into town to one of the two hostels suggested by the LP,found it was closed, the second was Residencia Bariloche where I tried to book in for either one or two nights. The receptionist was not helpful and refused to assist with my poor Spanish even with the dictionary so I ended up booking and paying for, two nights. A big mistake. My room was a double with a good en suite, a good hot shower, fan and TV, Sounds very reasonable. I then found two pairs of underpants drying behind the window curtain, made me doubt the cleaner! The bed looked OK but proved to have a very rutted mattress, well past it´s prime. My third mistake was not to check either for discount OR whether they included breakfast, I got neither! The price I was charged was 40rs. per night, somehow I find that I have parted with 100rs. rather than 80, Another mistake? The town reminds me of Spain in the 1950/60's, none too clean, rather self centered, busy, (and hot of course), with some cafes that I don´t wish to enter even though I am not particularly choosy when traveling. It´s saving feature is supposedly it´s show of artworks on the streets and in the squares, regretfully the majority have been left to become as grubby as the town itself. Perhaps I should make allowances and put it down to a bad day but I think I will cut my losses and write off the cost of tonight, (and move on today), rather than suffer further irritation. The whole thing is just wrong, what a shame, BUT it had to happen sooner or later. "Cést la vie". Peter T.

ooh I do so feel for you, sounds like any hotel in Blighty. I found a little pink sequin, you know those sparkly things that get sewn onto girly whatnots? in my last hotel, in the bed, the morning after I'd slept in it. It wasn't mine. Clearly the bed had not been changed though it seemed clean enough. I guess they thought so too. And the cost!!! I expect to buy the place for that - but as you say... show all
