Where I stayed
We try to book a meal at several restaurants - closed for the day. We found one on the front "Christmas dinner, we can squeeze you in, 1000 pesos each, arrive 9.30, OK?"
We agree, it is midday on 24th December and there is little else we can do. As we depart they confirm "9.30, tonight OK?" We try to explain we want it tomorrow after midday.
"No we are closed for Christmas,"
We accept the failure and say "OK, tonight is celebration dinner."
Guess what - it was great fun, a great drink, live bands, party swinging and dining out till long after we had staggered back to our hotel at 3am.
Like most of the population on Christmas day itself we slept a lot, until we recovered our senses on Boxing Day by which time all signs of festivities had gone.
Today is New Year´s Eve, as expected everything is closing, the hotel restaurant is serving its usual fare until 10pm and the bar is to stay open until after that. Perhaps we are not able to party, but at least we can drown our sorrows.
Happy New Year
