Where I stayed
The whole place came to life around 7.30 pm. The restaurants began to open though nobody seemed willing to enter them, around 8.15 one or two tables were occupied, by 8.45 you couldn't find a space to sit at any decent place, only the seedier cafes had seats left. We beat the locals to it as hunger had driven us to be sitting ready to dine at 8.02. A great buffet meal, wide choice, a wine and beer, dessert, coffee and a tip all came to around 7 pounds for the two of us. No complaints on the quality of service or meal, congratulations to the waiter who did well with his schoolboy English and our Lonely Planet Guide Spanish.
The Victoria hotel/hostel is good, clean and ideal for travellers. It feels safe, has good rooms with hot showers and a wonderful courtyard area as a center to the place, at the price of 40 pesos (7 pounds) for a double room with en suite it is great value, all linen and towels included with the room servicing.
Pity about the town, tomorrow will see us up and away, probably to the mountains inland, we must get away from this huge fenland area.
Keep on troshing you Keith Skipper fans, the world is our oyster.
