Well Mar del Plata out of season still had some life in it and some places of quite high interest. Arrived here at Necochea via a two and a half hour bus ride, (cheap at 15 Peso, about two pounds fifty), landscape still very East Anglian or fen like but all on a grand scale. The hostel we were going for was firmly shut, so was the second one, so much for the "lonely planet guide",nothing about November being pre season closed. Had to take a hotel, one of the few open, at the cost of 80 peso a night for the two of us (15 pounds) but the luxury of the place is three/four star, its a hard life travelling like this!!!
I guess tomorrow will be heading towards Bahia Blanca and perhaps then the mountains inland where the seasonal holidays don't interfere with my hopes of mixing with the people. My Spanish is not even getting started as there are so few people here on the coast at the moment.
The one thing that is really different here is the traffic. The average age of the cars is about 20 years old, that takes into account the numerous new ones. Those that are old date from the fifties or sixties, some huge American drags, old VWs, various European bangers, some with rust so high that the doors look like half stable doors, bumper less crates, rear-screens windowless, doors of various colours having been taken off other wrecks, all these cars are to be seen parked or driving gushing fumes and smoke while others are parked (???) crazily against the kerb so they don't roll away down the hill. Often there are no lights or tail lamps just gaping holes where they once were, whether these are parked or abandoned only comes to light when some old chap climbs into one and drives off amid the other noisy roaring exhaust-box-less machines. Quite a sight!
Is there anyone out there travelling near me? If so I would love to here from you, meanwhile "keep a troshing all you Norfolk people.
