A 5-6 hour bus journey over perpetual fen lands but in massive leather arm chair type seats so comfortable and suporific. Now accustomed to our dimly lit room in an empty hostel which boasts little in the way of amenities but friendly staff who are desperate to be helpful. On the downside I am always suspicious of places that get very liberal with the air freshener ... what are they trying to hide? (Hotel Galeon ... actually a hostel)
This is all side stepping what I wanted to add and it comes from the menu in the lovely little restaurant where we ate last night and is perhaps the only place where the English menu was harder to understand than the Spanish. Among our choice of delights was the following:
Guts cooked in Spanish style Soft cow meat sheet unboned chicken in oven Houses jewelrys. I had salad. The other delight was watching massive seals on the port area where an armada of brilliant orange fishing boats were taking the day off (apparently as they were there) Hoards of lovely children milled around only slightly embarrassed when Peter tested them on their English. The town is very big, built up, but thankfully not yet wall to wall sunbathers as this is only spring; still the sun was hot enough to redden the exposed areas and I was foolish enough to leave the hat behind. Overall ... recommended for a visit, but perhaps not a long stay. As ever people friendly and helpful.
Where I stayed:
Galeon Hostel
