Vroom vroom over the american highways...

We arrived in Monterey too early to check into our hotel. We had an hour or two to kill before meeting up with Jennifer so we decided to grab an early lunch. We ended up at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co... Yup, they have actually made a whole restaurant chain based on the Forrest Gump movie! Complete with 'Run, Forrest, Run!' signs, and a bench outside where you could try out that famous 'Life is like a box of chocolates'-scene...

We tried having a look around town as well, but we couldn't get any good pictures of the seaside as the entire place was slightly foggy... or so we thought... We found out that it was actually smoke from the many wild fires in California at the moment.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is known for its sea otters, which are native to the area around Monterey. They are rather impossible to take pictures of since they are behind glass and they move amazingly fast. I'm afraid you'll have to settle for a picture of Trude and her new friend Monty :-) We did manage to take quite a few colourful pictures of other parts of the aquarium though, which you'll find below.

P.S. See?! Pictures of us both! (Courtesy of Frank and his camera) (Martijn objects to the one of him, but he will just have to take it like a man, because... well... you know... life is like a box of chocolates... you never know what you're gonna get...And this time he was asked to pose looking ridiculous...)

P.P.S. How sad is it that Martijn's real shoes are as big as the fake shoes, which are meant to fit people's feet WEARING shoes?!

Oh... P.P.P.S (heheheheh) Monty is NOT a souvenir for anyone... Monty is Trude's :D (Now to see if she can resist getting more cute stuffed animals for the rest of the trip :P)

This sounded like a nice relaxing part of the trip - love the tree pics - reminds me that its a shame that moving house meant leaving behind the two redwoods that my parents gave me that had got to be a whole three feet tall in nine years - imagine how old the ones in your pics are !!

Aquarium again...
oh - forgot to add - sometime if somebody could tell me how you GET shots like that that look like they are underwater in WITH the critters - without getting a nasty blotch of flash reflecting off the glass :) I have a nasty feeling it will go something along the lines of 'a lens that costs silly amounts of money' :(
