We got one of the Christmas trees from the Knife River Chorale and decorated it. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it might be to sort through our many boxes of decorations to find the items for the tree and a few other things that we put out in the kitchen and living room. The tree was very fresh and Porter made a wreath/swag from the branches that Wayne cut off the bottom section because it was too tall for the living room.
Friday was my birthday and we were home most of the day but went to the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie at 4:00 and then looked at some Christmas lights before coming home to eat. Kristin and I made stuffed pasta shells and they were very tasty!
We went to Bismarck on Christmas Eve Day. Wayne and Anthony went to pick up Porter's Christmas gift from Santa (an anvil that he had asked for) while Kristin, Porter and I went to visit Steve and the kids. We then went to the Christmas Eve service at Zion Lutheran Church and then to Vern (Wayne's brother) for the evening. We had potluck dinner, sang Christmas carols and enjoyed a visit from Santa. Porter sang his heart out and was super excited when he got the anvil. He told Santa he had asked for it for 3 years. He told me afterwards that it was "a dream come true."
Kristin, Anthony & Porter stayed at Missy's that night but Wayne and I drove home so we could get ready for company on Christmas Day. The kids all drove up together and Mom & Dad came from Rugby that afternoon. We had turkey dinner about 4:00, opened gifts, played dominoes and started a puzzle. The grandkids spent a lot of time playing pool and ping pong over the next few days.
My brother Jerome & his wife Kim from Washington state stopped by on Monday on their way to Rugby
Some of us went on a tour to the coal mine one morning. One evening Missy, Kristin, Logan, Parker, Madison and I played a Bean Farmer game that Kristin had gotten them for Christmas. She had played it with Bethany and Dean. We all enjoyed it a lot.
The kids and grandkids all left on Wednesday afternoon. Kristin, Anthony & Porter flew back that evening. We had the remainder of our time in ND to visit friends. We had our Ruth Fellowship Christmas gathering at the Barnwood Grill that evening. I had lunch one day with Chamber friends Val and Laurie (Carla forgot) and coffee another day with Diane and Marilyn (Kathy was out of town). I had to go to the bank so saw former co-workers there and stopped to say hi to Caroline when I walked past her house.
We had dinner with Boni, Myron and Sarah at Les & Joette's house on Friday evening and went to Curt (Wayne's brother) and Cheryl's in Beulah for New Year's Eve. Four other brothers and sisters came up also so again we enjoyed good food followed by games of dice and pinochle.
Our final day at home was spent taking down the Christmas decorations and cleaning house to get it ready for our renter. Delmar & Carole came over in the evening for a visit.
Thanks to our family and friends, we had a wonderful time in North Dakota. What a blessing they are to us!
