We talked last night about getting up at 6:30 so Wayne & Anthony could be ready by 7:15. Wayne forgot the time and was up at 6:00 making enough noise to wake up everyone. Porter did come in and lay in bed with me but neither of us went back to sleep.
I went over to the ramp to get a video of the charter going out. It was so close we could have seen it from the camper but a building was blocking the view. Another couple from Georgia went and the Captain who is from Miami, FL.
After they left Porter and I had breakfast and got ready to go to the Sea Life Center in Seward. At one point I wondered if it was worth going to but then saw they had built a multi-million dollar facility with money from the Valdez oil spill so figured it was quite a place. It was and we enjoyed the morning there. There was a good balance of exhibits and displays, live sea animals to watch, and short videos to watch about a variety of topics. The last thing we did was pay 50 cents to make a souvenir from a penny. Porter did it himself and was so impressed with it. He decided over lunch that he should make one for his best friend Tusker.
The Center was right near the downtown business district so we decided to get some lunch there. We talked about going down to the harbor but I don't think the boats are a huge interest to Porter since they have the same thing in Port Townsend, just on a smaller scale. We walked past a couple and then found a coffee shop that did wraps. We shared an Italian wrap and then what tasted like a homemade lemon poppyseed muffin. Good lunch and a fun place to be.
After lunch we went to the Kenai Fjords National Park Visitor Center and did the hike to the Exit Glacier. Wayne and I had done it with Les & Joette when they were here but Porter has a National Park passport book to get stamped and I was sure he'd like the hike. As it turned out, it was better than when we went a couple weeks ago because the extension on the trail that goes right up by the glacier was opened. Porter liked the trail with all it's up and downs and around and around. It was just over a mile up and the same back and he did great again. The sun came out and it turned into a beautiful afternoon.
When we got back to the camper, we made a pan of peach crisp and used the few low bush wild cranberries we had picked on the trail a couple days ago. Nice addition I must say! Then we sat up at the office waiting for the guys to come back...I wanted to be ready with the camera. We visited for awhile with a couple from California (she is originally from England) that have rented a cabin near here and then with a couple of the employees, one a college student who goes back for his Senior year at the Universit of Oregon in Eugene after this week. When he got a call from the captain of the charter boat asking him to get ready to clean fish we were relieved!
The captain fished also so they got their limit of 10 halibut. They also got 2 ling cod that are supposed to be good eating and several black bass. The captain got the big one that weighed in at 80# - that was quite a fish!
By the time the pictures got taken, the fish got cleaned and ours got taken to the processing center it was past 8:00. Porter had eaten earlier and had his peach dessert already so was ready for bed and waiting for bedtime stories when we finished eating. We all had an enjoyable day doing something we like to do....God is so good!
