Where I stayed
Real Alaska Cabins & RV Park
He had caught a pink salmon (they call them humpies) and was hoping to still get some silver salmon which are supposed to be better eating. The locals don't even keep the pinks but the tourists do. We've been told they are best smoked or canned. I'll have to ask around and find out if people actually eat them plain and if so, how they prepare them.
I decided to bake something and take it to Wayne and the other people fishing at the Park. I had one overripe banana that wasn't worth freezing and was not enough for banana bread
It was 46 this morning so very chilly when I got up. I turned the furnace on when I turned the hot water heater on. We don't run either one during the night but turn them on when we first get up. Then I crawled back under the covers for 10 minutes to stay warm before getting up to shower. It doesn't take long to heat up such a small space and within a short time the sun came out and it had warmed up enough outside so I didn't need the furnace running any more.
Wayne had caught 2 pink salmon which we washed, cut into large pieces and froze all in one bag. We'll figure out when we get home if we should can them. I did some many years ago with some ND salmon and a very easy recipe and we really liked it.
We decided to move to one of the other campgrounds that we had heard about with access to fishing. It's less than 20 miles up the Sterling Highway so we decided it wasn't worth hooking up the car behind the motorhome so I just drove it
The walk was long enough that I warmed up and was ready to put shorts on when we got back to the camper. I think it's been 10 days since I've had shorts and sandals on so that felt good. I think tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer.
Next we stopped at this RV Park just up the road. The manager told us about a spot where he fishes so we drove down to look at it. It was better so we decided to stay here and Wayne would drive to one or the other of the spots we looked at. Besides it has hookups so I will have electricity for my sewing machine and there is a laundry so I can do a couple loads of clothes.
We looked at the Milepost and a couple brochures we have to see if there were other fishing access areas near here. We found two more so drove to them after supper. The one Wayne liked the best is less than 10 minutes from here. I think it helped that it wasn't overcrowded and a guy was cleaning a couple silver salmon that he had caught there. It has a campground there also. Wayne will fish there in the morning and if he likes it and wants to stay another day we will move the camper over there for one night. If not, we will drive about an hour and look for the best place to stay when Anthony and Porter will be here.
We played Skip-Bo tonight for awhile. That's a fun game and a nice switch from pinochle. I did a couple loads of laundry in between the games so that's caught up again.
Not sure if it indicates it but the fishing pictures are videos so you can watch some of the action! Just click on the picture and it will open the program to view the video.
