That reminds me that I forgot to tell you the good news about the slideout. Wayne was going to call Fleetwood about getting a new motor and started reading the information he had received from them. It occurred to him that we had put a lot of extra weight in the drawers and storage compartments of that slideout, like a large drawer of books and extra canned goods, etc. We did some rearranging and tried the slideout and it works! So for now at least no new motor is needed and I love having the extra space again.
We left Fairbanks mid-morning and drove as far as Nenana, a little town that is known for the barges and tugboats that leave from there to take supplies to some of the remote areas in northwestern AK
This Festival is sponsored by the local Lions Club. They were a generation younger than our Lions Club (which is awesome....bless them for all their hard work in Hazen!) and had obviously been doing this for awhile or learned well from their mentors. It was very organized. We opted to [park in the Family Camping area just in case the late night entertainment was too loud for us or the crowd turned out to be loud and rowdy.
There were bands that changed every hour or so. We visited with some other Rv'ers that gave us more tips and redcommendations...this time about going over to the Kodiak Island from the mainland. The Festival also had craft booths and food boths, maybe 10 of each. Mom told me yesterday that my nephew Mark and his wife Krystin had a baby boy so I bought him a handmade crocheted hat that some high school girls from the area were making. I also had a crepe for a snack and Wayne had ice cream.
We listened until about 10:00 when the band changed to the main attraction for the evening. The older people left and the younger ones came in great numbers. I got the hint! It was fun watching the girls hula-hoop that I got on video. I haven't heard that it's making a comeback but they were good!
There were some interruptions of sleep during the night but overall we slept pretty good. The festival lasted through Sunday so hope they had a successful event and made some money from it!
