The trip to Punta del Diablo was, hands down, one of the best vacations I've ever had. There are few places like this that haven't been totally commercialized (a la Punta del Este), and, at least during the off-season, are good places to get away from it all minus mobs of tourists.

A few of the highlights:

1. El Diablo Tranquilo and its staff: These guys totally rock. The room was fantastic. The food was fantastic. Last but not least, the people were fantastic. They're cool. And one guy is even a former Decaturite! : ) (You know who you are if you're reading this) I didn't have to worry about a thing during my stay. To the staff: thank you for making this the weekend vacation of a lifetime!

2. My friend Lindsay and I got to ride horses all afternoon with Fabian, our guide, for USD$40. We rode through the Santa Teresa Reserva Nacional, and the trip included a stop with wine and snacks halfway through. It was a perfect day, and Fabian is cool. Do not miss this if you go to Punta (but DO WEAR SUNSCREEN! - I got burned the first day walking around on the beach even though it was cloudy).

3. Punta del Diablo has one of the most beautiful natural beaches I've ever been on, and there are quite a variety of things that you can do while you're at the beach there. Want to play on, or in, the rocks? They're taller than your head. Go for it. Wanna surf? The waves break well enough to do that too. Want to sit in the sand? It's good sand (not too "shelly" or rough if you know what I mean).

If you make the trip to Uruguay sometime, do yourself a favor and be sure to check out Punta del Diablo. As for the rest, I'll let the photos do the talking.

Hasta pronto,
