Although we still have a month to go before we leave the country, I want to make sure we're prepared. Still, I feel like I'm forgetting something important. We have the hotel and flight booked, I guess that's all that is really important. We can figure the rest out. I'm still not planning an extensive itinerary so we have time to walk and enjoy the sights, but here's what I have sorted out so far:
Booked the hotel (Hotel Internazionale, http://www.epoquehotels.com/h.php/rome-hotels/boutique-hotel/h/internazionale/l/en)
Booked the flight
Booked transportation to and from the airport
Made arrangements for my parents and father-in-law to watch the kids while we're gone
Made a reservation at the kennel for the dog
Got some new luggage
Bought Megan an eye mask so she can sleep on the plane
Read about how to avoid jet lag
Got a Kindle (Thanks, Megan!) so I don't have to bring a bunch of books with me
Booked a Vatican tour for Saturday June 27th
Registered for the conference
Paid the conference fee
Got an international cell phone for Megan
Installed Skype
Bought a money belt
Bought a step-down transformer
Studied maps and read about pickpockets and other safety matters
Tried to figure out the Metro
Made arrangements to get a 2nd world phone Blackberry from work for me to use
Started a travel blog
Saved some cash
Looked at Brad's pictures
Thought a lot about coffee, mmmmm coffee
So what am I missing? I think the only thing I need to do before we go is exchange some money and get some traveler's checks. This is all stuff having to do with getting there - once we're there we'll be fine. Okay, so I'm a planner, sue me. I figure it's better to get all of this out of my system now so that once we're there we can slow down and enjoy ourselves!
