I tried to catch a few shut-eyes as much as I could but the seat was a torture to be in. The moment the sun rose at 630 am, we were busing along edges of mountains lost in the fogged valleys. The morning light and misty mountains made for many breathtaking postcard views. We arrived at Banaue in a very wet foggy morning by 8 am. The jeepney touts were largely aiming for passengers heading to Sagada or Batad, so I was left alone.
Majestic Rice Terraces
Checking out a few accommodations, I managed to secure a 500 php room with hot water shower at the People's Lodge. It was pretty decent and was attached to a convenience store and restaurant overlooking Banaue's rice terraces valley which had me mesmerized for a while. The light drizzle and low floating clouds all helped add to the magic. The drizzle continued the entire day, so I slept the rest of my morning off and spent most of the afternoon putting in my diary entries, sitting on a balcony looking to the majesty of Banaue.
There were no shortage of hiking guides to Batad. Two young brothers Justin and Rafael zeroed in on me for most of the afternoon at the restaurant, so I made a tailored hiking trip leaving tomorrow morning for Cambulo village to Batad and back to Banaue. At 3300 php, I thought it was a bit pricey.
