I arrived Vang Vieng at 3am and was dropped off in the middle of nowhere as far as my eyes can see. Lucky for me, the morning temperature was not as cold as Phonsavan's. I was all prepared to walk towards the town centre in what I thought was the direction when a sawngthaew pulled up and the driver offered to take me to his guesthouse. Three young aussie girls were onboard, pretty zonked out from hours of partying. This pretty much summed up the atmosphere of this infamous party hole. So in a stroke of luck, I got myself a room in the wee of the night, albeit a very expensive one - US$10 a night.
By the time I woke up, it was late morning. A slow brunch by the river Nam Song and I was out walking the town. Most of Vang Vieng's river activities ie, tubing, caving, kayaking..etc, will take one full day so today was pretty much a write off. By midnoon, the sun was already burning so hot that I returned to room for a nap.

Dinner was a very very disappointing Korean fried chicken and Theobukyi at a particular Mr Chicken House. The free screening of Ironman II at the premise was the attraction. From my walk back to guesthouse, I can hear the thumping techno that was blaring from Don Khang - an island connected to the mainland by footbridges and more or less a social asylum for zonking out illicitly.
