Where I stayed
Needless to say, all the dusty old buddha statues were not enough to settle me down. All my shots of this buddhist cave were jarred and whimsy. On the route back, we had to stop by a Lao Lao whisky making village. After climbing its steep bamboo steps, my knees turned wobbly and I was far from 50%. Barely hanging on for the return journey, I was knocked out cold for most of the entire afternoon and evening at my room.
Luckily for me, I somehow managed to inform the guesthouse owner that I was ill before I concussed. She was affectionately known as "Mama" to every guests. Mama was really concerned about me. She tended to me through the day, made sure that I had a more comfortable doona and even brought me hot green teas and dinner. Drowsing in and out of consciousness, I heard the festive laughters and merry making in the bin of retro western pop to folk Laotian music. Peering from my corridor window, a huge Laotian dinner was happening with fellow backpackers and locals digging in. Damnit..
The fireworks must had been impressive because it was really really loud. Happy New Year 2011.
