on arrival to krakow we werent realy sure how to get to our hostel so we went with some people we met on the train. turned out they didnt either we ended up walking down the main street, an amazing street of old building 3-4 storys high right the way down to the main square where there was a massive clock tower. as we entered the main square there was a bit of a fundraising concert for children, so we hung around for a second. The saquare was awesome with these big cathedrals surrounding it and old school looking buildsing everywhere. there is one big building in the middle, a wee market and then a statue to the left of it. we didn't stay too long because we needed to get to the hostel.
on arrival at our destination (Giraffe hostel) we were informed that the day after the hosel would infact be closing, so could only stay one night
Woke up early on the 10th because we were off to auschwitz the concentration camp. Its an hour and a half drive so quite long, but they played this movie while on the way. It was pretty brutal and started us off in quite a somber mood which was probably good. On arrival we met our guide, put on the head sets and headed off round the camp. Can't really describe it to you, i guess you could see photos of google to get a visual idea but really its almost too much to explain. I couldn't take it all in, there was so much wrong that it sort of overloaded me. Kinda went into this sponge state where you just suck it all in but don't really process too much. If you ever get a chance, come here, its a nasty part of our history but it really helps make our history real so i'd say worth the effort.
The 11th was time for us to explore Krakow. Before we went too far we shot to the train station and checked we'd be ok for the night train, and we were good to go. We were aiming for a free walking tour at 11 so had a bit of time to kill so went for a bit of a scope of the town. While snooping around we came across this wee photo store, willy wanted to fix his camera (its developed a few spot on the lens) so we whipped in. This guy couldn't fix it but he refered us to someone who could. WE found the second guy and he thought he could do the job. COuldn't speak english though so just had to write down times and prices. We went strait from there back to the main square for our walking tour. We had this pretty funny dude for the tour who made it a bit more interesting and with 3 hours we had seen most of what krakow had to offer. Turns out your supposed to tip but we wanted the free walking tour so the guide had to go without our tip. For the afternoon we had planned to see the jewish quarter but we met this girl we knew on her way to a shindler museum so tagged along with her. turns out this place was bigger than we thought so didn't get out till 4 sometime. then we had to rush back to pick up willys cam. got there and it was mostly fixed, yus, but still had a tiny blotch. the guy said come back at 7.30 and i'll have fixed the last little bit. we didn't really want to walk home so filled the time up at KFC playing the square dot game and drinking at the free refil. ON arrival at the guys store we found the place locked up and no one home. waited for about an hour and still no-one. we were getting worried. in the end we figured there must have been a miscomunication and we'de need to come back in the morning. THat would mean we miss the train....we figured that this is God closing the door. Trusting Him, though at the current time 9.40am 12th were still not 100% sure why it was closed, got our eyes peeled :) we did get to watch schindlers list last night which was awesome, so were pretty stoked about that. Aiming to train to Prague today.
