Today we hit up the Kremlin itself previously we had been right next to it in red square but now we actualy got inside the gates. we visited a room called the armery where the crown jewls of russia are held along with neumerous other artifacts. To start with we met up with one of our ozy mates Colin and went through lenons little tomb, he looked more real than chairman mal. from there we went the long way round the kremlin to find the gates to get in. once we had got our tickets we lined up but Colin got told he wasnt allowed to take his bag in so he had to go find a bag storage place, dan and myself went in and waited at the door... and waited... and waited some more. in the end the lady got a bit fidgety so we had to go on with a man down. This place is def worth a look if your ever in moscow, its loaded with gold n silver from here to kingdon come!! swords, guns, horse carts, clothes, crowns you name it this place had it. That pretty much took up a whole day but managed to sneek in a cheeky shop at some insane shopping mall. this place would blow any females mind, guys dont take your wives there! expensive and huge, its called gym(goom).
3/1/2011 and 4/1/2011
Had a total failure on both of these days. we'd heard about a vodka meuseum and knew the general direction but finding said museum turned out to be harder than expected. we wandered around a bit on the 3rd with no luck so whipped off to some other sight we'd heard about, turns out we suck (stink) at finding places cause we couldn't find it either. At least we saw a bit of moscow and had a mean time roving round. on the 4th we had switched hostels and were giving this tourist book which mentioned the vodka museum. we decided to give it a crack but were met with total failure yet again, walked a fair bit further abrode this time and found some pretty cool spots but no vodka museum. that night caught a night train to St Petes, shared the room with two babushkas, they were choice.
got into Saint Petersburg about 7 in the morning then whipped across to the hostel. The poor receptionist was just out of bed but she let us in so we dumped our bags and headed out. went the the hermitage museum, which is this massive museum that must have a million paintings, it hadn't open yet for the day so the queue was massive and we were going to give it a miss but we figured it was a good time. Turns out the queue is massive all day, it just kept growing longer. we picked a good time to join the line because we met this awesome couple in front of us and spent our hour in the line yarning with them. They were from russia and were just in st petes for three days seeing the sights like us. we hung out with them round the museum and willy entertained them with a few wistles here and there, all in all it was a choice 5 hours. That night there was a mean light show outside our hostel which we
followed up with a walk round st petes. we actually met this random girl who decided she was keen to wallk with us so for about an hour and a half we went for a wander. she actually didn't speak a word of english so we drew pictures in the snow and sung famous songs that she recognised, pretty random meeting really. then is was off to bed for a early night for the lads.
today has been covered in another blog so refer to that
today was a classic cobs and dan day because we just wadered all around st petes seeing whatever we felt like we wanted to see. as it worked out we saw some pretty cool stuff and made a couple of choice wee purchases. we both got a mean russia shirt and cobs made a few other purchases. that night we were planning to meet up with the couple from the museum. but due to a few communication difficulties that was not to occur, so we ended up just going out ourselves. had a mean night and got our first sighting of the hookah, looks awesome.
over and out
This is just a quick informer for our last few days in russia, we're a bit slack. we're sitting in our hostel waiting for the train so its a perfect time for a bit of a catch up.
