Our destination for today - Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. After stopping at a camping shop to buy a new gas bottle (our old one had lasted us the entire time we've been in Aus!) we realised that it was so old, and hadn't been changed for so long, that they have stopped making them completely and we had to get a brand new size which, of course, wasn't going to fit! We ended up buying a little diddy one and wedging it in with cardboard - bit of a bodge-job but it'll do for now!

We got to the Zoo around 11am and were greeted by a camel at the entrance (no - the ticket lady wasn't that bad looking - it was an actual camel!). The stars of the zoo have to be the crocs and there are lots of them! They range from 'cute' (apparently) little freshwater ones to huge great big salties, weighing up to half a ton! The bigger ones sit with their mouths open making them look even meaner. I definitely didn't envy the guy feeding them from 3 feet away at the croc show we saw in the arvo. Another highlight was the wombats - one rather fat furry lady in particular was undergoing some essential 'cuddle' therapy from her keeper when we walked by her enclosure. The echidnas were hilarious as always, running around on a mission.

The zoo itself is really well set up - the enclosures are huge and all the animals seem very happy which isn't always the case. We had a picnic amongst the roos and Will got to know one - Debs enjoyed playing with the baby goats in the kids section and had to be dragged away.
