After packing our things and saying goodbye to Alice, we headed to Phillip Island and after trying unsuccessfully to find a campsite that wasn't closed for the winter we checked into Boomerang Caravan Park then ventured off to the Penguin Parade. One of the beaches on the island is home to hundreds of Little Penguins (formerly called Fairy Penguins and the world's smallest). Every night when the sun sets they form groups, or 'rafts', out to sea then slowly waddle their way up the beach for a well earned rest. They spend 75% of their day in the water catching fish. We weren't allowed to take any photos of them (sorry guys, no photos in this entry) but they were very cute - we watched them cluster into groups, huddle round for what seemed like a chat amongst themselves and then make a run for it to the grassy edge of the beach. When we walked back to the car park, you could hear them all making a bed for the night and talking to each other - they were incredibly noisy for something so small! We headed back to the site for dinner and to warm up after a chilly hour on the beach.
