Got to Chiang Mai in the early evening and headed to the main backpacker area to find a room.  Found a cool guest house with traditional wooden rooms, floor cushions and water features for 300 THB.  Wandered round, had dinner and crossed the river to check out the many bars along it's front.  Were attracted to a lively sounding bar that had a live cover band (with male and female singers doing everything from Muse and the Arctic Monkeys to the Cranberry's and Gwen Stefani) and ended up staying all night - definitely the best live music we have seen since we've been here and very spunky hairstyles!  The next morning, feeling slightly hot and hungover, we checked out and headed off to find our next hotel that Deb's had booked for Will's birthday present the following day.  It was a bit out of town but we finally found it with the help of a tuk tuk driver.  Spent the rest of the day exploring the city in the baking sun then retired ready for the surprise to come.....
