Uneventful 3 hour train trip from Warsaw to Krakow, then only got slightly misplaced walking to our apartment. We are staying in a fabulous 2 bedroom apartment for the next 4 nights, so can unpack and sleep in a bit (woo-hoo from the back stalls)

We in a quiet residential street about 10 minutes walk from the Old Town. Went to the local supermarket for a lesson in how good the Poles can draw their product on the label - turns out the ham we bought was cheese! (the milk has a cow and is ok, as we sampled it for lunch with some local corn flakes. the yoghurt is a mystery until the morning!)

Walked into the Old Town to a huge Xmas market in the square (the largest medieval town square in Europe... not sure how many other types there are!). Sampled the local mulled wine, (another souvenir mug to add to the collection), viewed the goods in the Cloth Hall (souvenirs and crafts) and wandered back at nightfall (3.30pm).

Spotted a bakery on the way back and bought DC's birthday cake - the pictured assortment of 2 cream puffs, 1 vanilla square, 2 gingerbread reindeer and the cake cost 13.35 zloty - less than $5. The weirdest thing was the cream puffs are sold by weight, so those 2 cost a grand 0.66 zloty (22 cents).

Bought tea at the supermarket to cook at the apartment (fresh chicken breast, frozen veg) and some lemon infused risotto we bought in Naples. Birthday cake for dessert and ice cream for tomorrow - who said a max of 2 degrees was too cold to eat ice cream!?
