Out of necessity I'm reading the newspapers as I'm travelling around. Current affairs that could have and could affect my trip: Military coup in Thailand (proved to be irrelevant to tourism), guerrillas and typhoons in the Philippines (changed my plans and went to Laos instead), terrorist attacks in southern Thailand (rarely hit tourists, but it's a dodgy crossing into Malaysia), military coup in Fiji (keeping an eye on developments), bush fires in Australia.
