My thermometer reads 41° on the long strip of sandy beach, that squeaks as you walk across it. The front is half covered by two rows of sun loungers that stretch along Hat Karon's kilometre length.
The sea is warm, not choppy, but riddled with tiny stinging creatures. Jet skis and banana boats roar perilously close to swimmers. It's a typical day at the beach.
Options away from burning are boat trips to 'James Bond Island' (That'll be the settings for both 'Octopussy' and 'The Man with the Golden Gun' I'll have ventured to this trip.), elephant shows and rides, orphaned gibbons and ox-cart racing. I book some diving.
