Happy 79th birthday, your royal highness! (And 75th day away to me!)
I'm feeling a little worse for wear when I return to the Royal Grounds. Today the heat is perishing, in the late 30s and muggy as a sauna. Sensible folk are wearing hats, carrying umbrellas or draping themselves in sheets. I'm not sensible.
The National Museum is open so I browse the dioramas of great elephant battles, impressive royal funerary carriages and booty.
On Sanam Luang there is a free boxing match for the public. The Caucasian is staggering about from the Thai guy's blows by the second round and his trainer calls it over. It's a popular win.
It's over for me in Bangkok too. I've a bus to catch southwards. As the V.I.P. Bus pushes through the traffic jams I see thousands of Thai, all dressed in yellow raising candles to portraits of the king.
