A plank bridge across the river leads to several shaded huts, perched on stilts in the babbling water, a great place to unwind, or write a blog. The bungalows over this side of the river are a much more comfortable option to the guesthouses on the strip.
I'm softening my opinion of Vang Vieng. It's not a place to gain an appreciation of Laotian culture but it's a fine place for the weary traveller to switch off.
