As with Delhi, I rushing through familiar Bangkok, arranging a tour in northern Thailand instead. The tuk-tuks here have some serious acceleration. The hot air that rushes past you means it's cooler to be stationary on the road than speeding. Missing work already (after just 2 months!), I take a ride to the malls near Siam Square and, in particular, the five floors of hi-tech in Pandip Plaza. Here, I'm bothered by DVD sellers offering me "sexy movies".
The heat and street life of Banglamphu, unlike dusty Paharganj or the more consumer-obsessed Thamel, compels me to stay out drinking till the small hours. Bargain cocktails don't hurt either.
