As my airport taxi arrived, honking outside, the staff at Hotel Jagat (which I do recommend) insisted on taking my photo in a good-luck silk scarf.
20 minutes later, a queue extends out of the airport, around some pillars to the taxi rank, as passengers wait to get through the extra security at check-in. The flight arrives in Delhi, only 30 minutes late. I'm unable to change my few Nepali rupees to Indian currency as the Delhi bureaux de change don't accept them. (I knew I should have bought a bottle of vodka at duty-free...)
I book a pre-paid taxi to Paharganj. A local jumps in to. I should have demanded a share of the cost. Instead, when the cheeky driver asked for a tip, I pointed to the uninvited freeloader.
It's odd to be back at square one again - same hotel in Delhi where I started the trip seven weeks ago. (The Round the World ticket would not allow departures from Kathmandu.) It's as if the trip so far was a dream, and now I have a second chance. This time, I'm heading straight for Thailand.
