There's a lot of hewing up mucus and coughing in the morning and, for a change, it's not the locals doing it.
Nar and I set off at 6.38am no matter what time we get up, before the sun hits the valleys. We're usually getting breakfast at the first sunny spot about 90 minutes later. Today we're taking coffee and eggs beside a waterfall.
The route is 'Nepal flat', which means it's a series of ups and downs that never seem to dip below 1200m. We enter the world's deepest valley, 8000m below the peaks of Annapurna South and Machapuchare (Fish Tail mountain). I get deja-vu from the first week as we pass familiar orange groves, rice harvests, nettles and poinsettia.
We arrive in Tatopani (1190m), a fair-sized village, well supplied with masseurs and laundry services for tired trekkers. I meet up with a couple of Brits to exchange trek tails and imported wine, then wander down to the river to the hot springs to sunbathe and rest on a boulder till the clouds pass over.
